Favourites: Monthly Favourites August 2014

Hi everyone!

Another month gone, another favourites post, so here we go for August!

The Bodyshop Seaweed Day Cream $24.95 (on sale for $20.95)

I purchased this one at the start of the month. I have been loving the way it treats my oily/combination dehydrated skin. It helps keep my t-zone at bay but still moisturises my skin. You can read more about the Bodyshop Seaweed Day Cream here.

MAC Fix + $27.00
I love this product so much! It has taken me years to actually decide to buy this as I didn't think I 'needed it'. Lets just say my skin has welcomed a new holy grail product into the mix! You can read more in my review here.

 Chi Chi Glamorous Eyes Palettes$22.95
These palettes have been blowing up all over the beauty community lately.
I went out and purchased the Nudes and Naturals Palettes. The Nudes is an amazing dupe for Urban Decay Naked Palette, but I have been drawn to the Naturals palette as of late.
This palette has more browns and mattes than the Nudes. I use the two matte brows to create the perfect brow colour.
These palettes are available at Target, Myer and on the online Chi Chi store.
A review on both these gorgeous palettes will be up soon!

Swatches from an upcoming post

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water $11.99 (On sale for $9.95 at Priceline)
I've always been a makeup wipe or just take it off with my cleanser kind of girl. When I changed my skincare routine up, I couldn't remove my makeup with my new cleanser so I purchased this cleansing water when it was $9.00 at Chemist Warehouse.
Garnier's Micellar Cleansing water is comparable to the Popular Bioderma H20 Cleansing Water, but half the price.
Garnier's Micellar Cleansing Water removes my makeup with ease.
Makeup is dissolved easily with no tugging or oily residue.
A full review of this is coming soon.

Thanks so much for reading!
Apologies about some of the image quality, I'm working from a different location and with a different camera. Everything will be back to normal in my upcoming posts.

Review: MAC Fix + Spray

Hi Everyone!

Today's review is on one of MAC's staple items which I am sure you all have heard of before.
I have always wanted to try MAC Fix + but never did because i thought that it wasn't worth it and its not something that I 'need' in my collection.
Boy was I wrong! I purchased this two weeks ago when my skin was severely dehydrated from using my clairisonic (more about this is an upcoming post) and it has transformed my skin and my makeup application.
Along with a massive switch up of face products Fix + helped to hydrate my skin and help my foundation look better on the flaky dry patches while I was repairing my skin.

MAC claims: An aqua-spritz of vitamins and minerals, infused with calm the skin blend of green tea, chamomile, cucumber, topped off with the fresh, natural, energizing scent of Sugi. Adds radiance, finishes makeup. Spray it on. Skin drinks it up.

I use Fix + religiously on a daily basis, my makeup application is not the same without it.
There are so many different ways to use MAC's Fix +, you can spray it on bare skin after cleansing and before your makeup to add hydration without that greasy look. It absorbs into the face super fast.

I also like to spray my beautyblender sponge with this after wetting it with water like normal. Spraying the sponge with some Fix + just helps the foundation bounce onto the skin flawlessly and eliminate my foundation sticking to dry flaky patches, it also gives my skin a nice dewy glow without looking like a grease ball.

Fix + can also be applied after you finish powdering to take away that over powdered look and make your skin appear glowy and natural.

In the middle of the day when i touch up my foundation i powder and spray some Fix + and my makeup is good to go for the rest of the day. This routine helps my skin look healthy and glowy but at the same time I can powder away that oiliness.

You can also use MAC's Fix + to foil your eyeshadow and to help not so pigmented eyeshadows look way better! You just spritz a bit of Fix + on your brush and apply your shadow.

You can add this straight to cream products to help them apply smoother or spray it into your foundation, there is endless uses for this product!

I definitely think it is worth its $27.00 price tag.
My skin is not the same without it, it definitely 'drinks it up'!
You can purchase this product at your local MAC store or counter or online here or you can try a smaller travel sized Fix + here for $15.00 before purchase the full size.

Thanks so much for reading!

Haul: Half price Maybelline Priceline Haul

Hi Everyone!

As most of you might know, Priceline has half price off all Maybelline products ending this weekend.
If you didn't know, run down this weekend before it ends!

I wanted to show you all what I purchased.

Maybelline recently released their new Superstay Better Skin Foundation which is RRP $21.95AU, but you can pick it up on sale for $10.97AU!

I've tried this foundation out once, the shades are more on the pink side, so that is something to be mindful of when purchasing this product. I have the lightest shade 005 Light Beige, for when I'm not wearing fake tan. I am still playing around with this product and a first impressions review will be up next week.

This is my first impression application- note this foundation is a bit too light for me as I have tan on right now.

In this photo I'm also wearing the bad to the bronze 24 hour eye tattoo and the maybelline gel eyeliner.

You can purchase these 24hr eye tattoos half price at priceline here for $5.95AU, RRP is $11.95.
They have a great range of bright colours as well as some amazing neutrals.
The pigmentation in these are hit and miss with the some of the coloured ones.

Maybelline Eyestudio Gel Pot Eyeliner is a great drugstore gel eyeliner. This eyeliner stays put! Its actually really hard to get off. I'm still playing around with this one, so far its an awesome eyeliner for its price.
You can purchase this one from Priceline here for $16.95AU but right now its half price for $8.47AU. Such a bargain for a high pigmented, long lasting eyeliner.

That's all I picked up as I am trying to save for IMATS.

Review: The Bodyshop Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream

Hi everyone!

Sorry we both haven't been posting lately, I for one have been super busy.
But I'm back! So here we go with a review of my new favourite day cream.

The bodyshop Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream is advertised as a non-clogging, oil free easily absorbent mattifying day cream and claims to control excess sebum and shine to balance the skin during the day.

This day cream has been a staple item in my morning face routine the past two weeks.
The consistency of this cream is a light gel, it applies quite wet but absorbs within a few minutes.

The smell of this day cream is pretty strong, it smells like seaweed, the ocean or fish.
It's not a very pleasant smell, but it does go away once absorbed.

I like to use this day cream as a primer, I find that it moisturises my face and also mattifys my face, preparing my skin for foundation.

This day cream works very well at balancing my skin and oil levels. I find on a day that I don't wear this my skin becomes oily earlier than it normally does. It doesn't stop my skin from producing oil completely but it does moisturise my skin where needed.

I find this cream is prefect for people like me who have oily but dehydrated skin. It helps to treat those dry flaky patches as well as not making my skin over produce oil like some other moisturises.

This product lives up to all it claims to do. Other than the smell, I have not found any problems with this day cream. It's not a miracle worker but I would definitely recommend trying this day cream out if you have combination/oily skin or suffer from dehydrated skin. If you have dry cheeks and an oily t-zone, I would suggest using a different cream on your dry areas or wherever you may need more moisture. My cheeks are relatively normal so this day cream works perfect for me.

You can purchase this Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream from The Body Shop here for $24.95 AU.
I am thinking about trying out their night cream that goes along with this collection because I like this day cream so much!

Review: Rimmel London Wake me up Concealer

Hi everyone!

Todays post is on Rimmel London's Wake me up Concealer.
I have been using this concealer for a few months now and i wanted to give you guys a quick review on it.

This concealer is marketed to wake up the skin, infused with vitamins and peptides to help brighten and illuminate under the eye with an instant anti-fatigue effect.

This concealer is part of a collection with Foundations and Powders.
It is available in 4 shades - Ivory, True Ivory, Classic Beige and Soft Beige. These shades suit light to medium skin tones with more yellow undertones, apart from True Ivory which has a slight pink undertone. These colours don't accommodate to pale and deep complexions very well. The shades tie in with the Wake Me Up Foundations which I like for the summer time.

This concealer comes in a lipgloss like tube with a doe foot wand applicator. The applicator isn't the most hygienic, but as I only the concealer under my eyes I don't mind that is has doe foot wand. This also makes it easier for application under the eyes.

This concealer is creamy but not thick and contains a bit of shimmer which you can see in the daylight, but doesn't pick up to much in flash photography.
Rimmel claims that it can be used under the eyes and on blemishes.
It provides a medium coverage and does covers my bags but probably wouldn't cover severe bags. I do not personally like putting it on my spots and blemishes as it contains shimmer and that can bring attention to the blemish.
I don't find this concealer that brightening but it could be brightening with a lighter shade, but it is hard to find one to match with their small colour range.

I apply this concealer with a patting motion because if you try to rub it in it can just sit on the skin. I find it has to be set with a powder or else it will settle into fine lines.
This concealer is not very long lasting. Half way through the day I can see it settling into fine lines.

Price is around $12.00-15.00 depending on sales and where you purchase it from.
Available at Target,Kmart,Chemist Warehouse here and Priceline here.

My overall opinion is that this product is a good light weight concealer for under the eyes when you are not looking to wear a long lasting full face of makeup. I find the Wake Me Up range good for summer because it is lightweight and the shimmers looks better with my summer time face.
I feel that this concealer should be cheaper for its results but it is affordable and easily accessible.
The concealers match up with colours from the rest of range, although I think they need to invest into making more shades to accommodate a variety of complexions.
This concealer will work for you if you have more yellow undertones, light bags under the eyes and are light to medium in skin tone.

Lana's July Favourites

Hi everyone!

These have been the products that I have been reaching for the most this month of July.
You can click here to see my favourites from last month.

Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer
I have used this product every day this month, you may have seen it in my small makeup and beauty haul which you can read here.
You can read more about this concealer over on that post.
To sum it up, I've been on the hunt for a new concealer that covers up my dark circles and brightens up my eyes with minimal creasing.
This concealer covers my dark circles great but does crease a bit on me, I've been playing around with powders and different applications to try and minimise this.
The shade I have is a little bit too pink for me and the more yellow toned shades are too tanned for me, which is a shame.
Although this colour is slightly too pink, I can get it to blend in with my foundation pretty well, so it is not to much of a hassle.

Benefit it's they're real mascara.
I received this mascara in my Benefit Primping with the stars Kit for Christmas but have only just been using the past couple months when it became big in the beauty community and I realised I had it in my stash.
Normally a mascara will work amazing the first time I use it then I can never get the application right ever again.
This mascara is the opposite, the more I use it and work with different techniques the better it works.
I find that I have to twist the brush as I move up through my lashes to get the best separation and curling effect.
Normally I just buy whatever mascara is cheapest on the market but this one I will for sure be buying the full size! I love this mascara!
You can purchase Benefit products from Myer here.

Maybelline & Nyx lipsticks
I have been loving this lip combination this month.
I love the Maybelline lipstick in 710 Sultry Sand as it lightens any lipstick I put under or on top of.
By it's self it's a bit too pale and not as pigmented as I would like but mixed with other nudes like Nyx Circle lipstick in the shade LSS522 as it creates the nudes that look better on my pale completion.

Sigma Brushes
This month I have been testing my new sigma brushes out so I can do an in depth review.
These two have become my absolute favourite!
Sigma Small Contour F05 - I love this brush for contouring with my Nyx taupe blush which you can read about in my last months favourites.
It applies the right amount of product in just the right spot.
Sigma Tapered Highlighter F35 - I have been using this brush to set under my eyes.
The tapered point is perfect to get right into the inner corner between the eye and nose.
This brush applies the perfect amount of product under to the eye to set my concealer but not look cakey.
A review on these two brushes and the other brushes from the Sigma premium kit will be up shortly.
